Flight-1 with 3 Eichis (Stefan, Vreni and Gerhard) from Zurich BA713 13:45 via London 14:30. Meeting with family Knopf from Vienna at Terminal 4 at Heathrow.

Store your luggage for 2.+3. week, take a stretch limousine to Hotel EMPIRE LANDMARK, 1400 Robson Street.

Stroll over Robson Street to the Steam Clock (steam powered clock, sounds every ¼ hour) in the Gas Light District, there dinner.

With the time difference it was a very, very long day.

Ferry to Lonsdale Quay Market, with Gondola up Grouse Mountain, again down visit the Capilano Suspension Bridge.

Back by bus to the Maritim Museum (St. Roch: old schooner from 1944) Walk to Granville Iceland: artificial peninsula, dinner at the harbour.

On the 50th floor of the Landmark Hotel we enjoyed the dessert buffet in the revolving restaurant.

Foot march from the hotel through the city centre from Vancouver to China Town with a view to Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classic Garden:

By bus back to Stanley Park:

Rent a bike: Bayshore Bicycles, 745 Denman Street

Bicycle tour in Stanley Park.

Passing the Aquarium we did ride around the peninsula to the Bieverlake, which we actually found camouflaged under water lilies.

Dinner at English Bay with sunset.

Rain program did not take place: University of British Columbia, Museum of Anthopology (ethnology), the largest collection of Indian art and Utility articles

Mo 10.8.

Bus service from hotel (Pacific Coach Lines, 700 Douglas Street, Tel. [604] 385-4411) to Tsawwassen. From there take the BC-Ferries from Vancouver to Swartz Bay. The bus came with us and brought us to Victoria.

Empress Hotel with Miniature World, Parliament building (guided tours)

Old houses in Johnson Street, Government Street, Douglas Street, guided tours of the Houses Helmcken House (1853) next to the Royal British Col. Museum and Richard Carr House, 207 Government Street

Maritime Museum of British Columbia: Tilikum, min. 1 hour

Unfortunately we omitted the Royal British Columbia Museum: (history), according to Karen it should be very beautiful.

Gorgeous Boat trip to Butchart Gardens. The former quarry is artfully restored in a beautiful park. At the berth of the Gardens was no place, so we drove back to Brentwood. From the Marina Brentwood Bay we wanted to reach on foot the Gardens and were supported by 2 cars of the Wels family from Brentwood Bay - Thank you!

Afternoon walk through the impressive Gardens, afterwards dinner at the local Restaurant. We enjoyed an open-air evening performance and after that a hike through the illuminated Park. (The relatively high entrance fee has paid off)

Drive through the island world to Genoa Bay, Visiting friends (Jim) of Karen

Eagle Watching in the morning, Fine breakfast on board with seals all around.

Drive to Salt Lake Island.(Ganges Habour.)

shopping and fine dinner.

14.8.

short trip and anchoring in the bay before Montague Habour. Excursions by rubber dinghy. Dinner at romantic Sunset atmosphere on board. Overnight we lay in the bay.

Drive to Vancouver, up the Fracer River to Shelter Island Marina. Boat cleaning and laundry with the on-board Washing machine. Dinner in Vancouver at the Frazer River + visit of an old Russian submarines. Last night aboard ‘Killin Time‘

leaving ‚Killin Time‘ nearby of the airport, before 09:00: ALAMO Minivan for 7 persons from Vancouver Airport, pick up luggage,

[120 km] Drive over Fort Langley National Historic Park (old canadian western fort) after Harrison Hot Springs.

[235 km] Hwy 1, 7 miles south of Boston Bar: visit of Hell’s Gate (gondola to the river, salmon ladders).

Cache Creek: Ranch

Kamloops: The city itself and the park by the river are uninteresting. For the Museum of Indian history it was already too late. It was also too late for the Boat trip on the Thompson River with the paddle steamer Wanda Sue (from 18:30, 2 hours, with dinner)

Thus we went to a Chinese restaurant. The Chinese wondered when we ordered rice for dinner - and so they just brought us an extra pot rice. What we did not know was that the rice was included and anyway abundant.

Kamloops Hotel THE COAST CANADIAN INN.

Recommended Hotel. Since we Eichis were four, we got the L-Suite (if the L stands for luxury?)

[440 km] Driving to destination Lake Louise,
this meant: get up early!

Slip into the Mount Revelstoke NP: Drive up to the End of the serpentine road leading from Highway 26km to the summit of Mt Revelstoke. From parking place, a free bus goes on, so you don't have to strain yourself too much.  At the top there are nice little walks to an old firetower (about 5 min) and a circular path.

Continuation through the Glacier NP, Rogers Pass,
Yoho N.P.:
At the entrance we visitedWapta Falls  – 5 km footpath, The Visitor Centre in Field closes at exact 19:00

18-20.8.

Lake Louise Hotel LAKE LOUISE INN

Watch out; the village Lake Louise is not on the lake, there is only the famous Lake Louise Hotel.

Drive to Moraine Lake

Then back again to Lake Louise and hiking up to Lake Agnes.

And back to Yoho Park:

Tour of the two Spiral Tunnels (railway tunnels) from the Viewpoint at the Highway

Via Natural Bridge to Emerald Lake. There great canoeing and outdoor dinner. in the Lake Restaurant.

Visit to YOHO National Park:

full day hike approx. 20km from Takkakaw Falls (380 m) to the YOHO glacier and along the Iceline.

[50 km] Drive to Banff: there are 2 parallel roads: Hwy 1 and Bow Valley Parkway (waterfalls of the Johnston Canyons)!

Environment of Banff: Sulphur Mountain Gondola, Eating Steak in the "Keg", Cascade Gardens, Cave & Basin, Upper Hot Springs (sulphurous swimming pool), Bow Falls, Historical Walking Tour (dark blue, oval badges). On the way we met these magnificent deer.

The bison reserve (Buffalo Paddock) was closed.

[285 km, 70km/h] Departure early in the morning, we drive on  the Icefield Parkway direction north, Bow Summit + Peyto Lake, Waterfall Group of lakes, Sunwapta Pass, stay at Columbia Icefield (Snowcoach to Athabasca Glacier,) and at the Sunwapta and Athabasca waterfalls, Mount Edith Cavell, Marmot Basin.

So 23.

Early morning drive [48 km] via Medicine Lake and photo stop at some moose on the way to Maligne Lake. With (expensive) excursion boat to the, Spirit Iceland. Then canoeing at Malingne Lake. Afterwards sightseeing of the Maligne Canyon and back to Jasper to the valley station of the "Tramway" (small cable car). This leads to on the Wistler Mountain south of Jasper, 2285m. 1.5 km hiking to the 2664m high Summit with magnificent panoramic views. (Marmots did not show up)

Mo 24.8.

[376 km] Drive Hwy 16 via Punchbowl Waterfish (50 km from Jasper) and Yellowhead Hwy to Prince George: Sawmills and paper mills, visit of the somewhat dilapidated open-air railway museum. In  the inner city are hints of the Western style to be found if one looks very closely, otherwise a desolate city – nothing going on.

Prince George, Hotel COAST INN of the NORTH

[238 km] Drive over Caiboo Hwy through impressive landscape up to Williams Lake, at Quesnel restored Hudson’s Bay Company store 1881 (Front Street / Carson Av.), side trip (96.5 km one range) to Barkerville. This is a museum town from the time of the Gold Rush. with saloon, shows and many actors in costumes. Very impressive.

C 26, 108 Ranch

100 Miles House

The address is wrong. The Hills Health Resort is hidden by the 108 Miles House. in the forest and we found it after a long search. It is a very nice bungalow hotel. with many sports facilities. Here you could hold out for a while.

[660 km] Drive to Whistler, old rest stop 108, 100, 93 and 70-Mile-House, very nice between Lillooet and Pemberton along the Fraser Canyon

Whistler, Hotel CRYSTAL LODGE: more modern Holiday resort, mainly for winter sports (extensive ski area).

[130 km] Drive Whistler to Vancouver, over Squamish (mountaineers hang in the rocks), Britannia Beach (the copper mine as a Museum only seen in passing – wold have been a bad weather program).

Lunch break at Horseshoebay, drive to Vancouver across the Suspension Bridge through Stanley Park Bridge to the airport
