This listed former Biedermeier cemetery was used as a burial ground from 1784 to 1874 and is now a public park. It is a forgotten cemetery. Here you can immerse yourself in the Biedermeier era. Nothing has changed here for around 200 years.

There are numerous old grave monuments in the St. Marx cemetery, including Mozart's grave. It is the place where Mozart was actually buried. At the central cemetery, where thousands of tourists visit him, there is an empty grave of honour.

The lilac blossom at St. Marx Cemetery from April to May is particularly impressive: there is no other place in Vienna where there are so many lilacs in such a small space.

Mozart Grab

Mozart was buried here in a shaft grave (mass grave).

A grave monument was erected here in 1859, but it was moved to the Central Cemetery in 1891, the 100th anniversary of Mozart's death, where it has stood ever since as part of the Mozart monument in the group of graves honouring composers.
On the now unadorned site, a cemetery caretaker erected a simple tomb, which he put together from parts of other graves that were no longer needed.

Kornhaeuselgrab

Resting place of Mr Josef Kornhäusel, K.K. architect and member of the fine arts, born 12 Nov 1772, died 31 Oct 1860

As an artist and as a person
Perfect he was whole
To him gratitude reaches
The most beautiful wreath of faithfulness

Grab der YELLA

Here rests YELLA

Her life lies spread out without wrinkles and shining brightly,
No dark spot left in it.

Freiin v. Spielmann, died at the age of 23 on 3 January 1857.
