Namur is a city in Belgium with 111,500, almost exclusively French-speaking inhabitants. Namur is located at the confluence of the Sambre and Meuse rivers and is the capital of the Walloon Region and the province of the same name. It is also a Roman Catholic bishopric and a university town.
The Citadel of Namur is located on a mountain spur above the confluence of the Meuse and Sambre rivers. With a total area of over 80 hectares, it is one of the largest fortifications in Europe. A cable car leads up from the city. Walking down, there are magnificent views of the city.
